Im Februar 2025 fand im Rahmen des Projekts „Begegnung mit ehemaligen Schülerinnen“ ein Treffen mit der ehemaligen Schülerin Anna Schnitzer statt.
Am Dienstag, den 18. Februar, haben wir Anna Schnitzer getroffen und kennengelernt. Sie machte ihr Abitur im Jahr 2020 und begann danach ihren künstlerischen Weg. Anna erzählte uns von ihrem Leben in der Kunstwelt nach der Schule. Sie zeigte uns einige ihrer Werke, sowohl alte und neue und erklärte ihre Gedanken und Ideen dazu.
After graduation, Anna was unsure of what to do or where to go, but after some reflection, she decided to attend the university in Bolzano. After completing her studies in Bolzano, Anna chose to pursue her master’s in Salzburg, where she is currently studying communication design.
Anna is interested in various fields, including visual language/storytelling, illustration, and typography. She also talked about some of her art projects. One of her first works, "Silent Observation," was made in 2021. This piece was her semester project during her first year of her bachelor’s studies. It consisted of only three elements: a notebook, a pencil, and a wall. What she did was first taking notes while observing people and in a second moment writing these observations on the wall. She mentioned how overwhelming the work was, both mentally and physically, and that she even had to lock herself in a room for hours just to write these notes on the wall. The goal of the project was to find her limits.
Anna also participated in a museum exhibition on landscape photography. For this project, titled "Reschenwerk," she took pictures of the Reschensee. Since she felt that the Reschensee tower was often showcased for its aesthetics, Anna decided not to include the tower in any of her photographs. Instead, she captured images where only the shadow of the tower could be seen. Through this work, she aimed to emphasize how people focus on quick photography without taking the time to truly reflect on the subject.
For her bachelor thesis, Anna created a project called "Eyes Bigger Than Stomach." This work focused on the visual consumption of food. For this project, she made cakes out of food waste and documented their decomposition. The project explored themes of aging and decay.
Currently, Anna is working on a project titled "Dear Denier," which will be exhibited in Salzburg in May. The theme of this project is climate change, and it consists of an audio piece in which a voice, representing the Earth, tries to make humans aware of the climate crisis. The goal of the project is to help people realize that something is happening.
Aside from her creative art projects, Anna also enjoys creating illustrations. She is currently working on a children's book titled "Wohin geht ihr?" with a friend. The book addresses different animals losing their homes due to climate change. The main character is a Lumholtz tree kangaroo, who loses his home because of climate change and decides to embark on an adventure to find a new one. Throughout the book, the Lumholtz meets various animals who have also lost their homes and join him on his journey.
Anna Schnitzer is a very creative, hardworking, and inspiring woman who wants to make art accessible to everyone.
