REVISION

Please do the following quizzes:

Making statements negative Choose the correct negation of the given statement (only!). Do not change the tense of the statement. Both the grammar and the spelling must be correct. If more than one answer is correct, all correct answers must be found, or else the score will be zero.

Logical Follow-Up Questions Choose the correct question in the same tense as the statement. If there are two correct answers both must be found, or else the score will be zero.

Asking questions: sentence core only Turn the given statement into a question. Do not change the tense. Do not change the subject. Do not forget the capital letter at the beginning of the sentence and the question mark at the end of it.

Making negative: sentence core only Make the sentence core negative. Please do not contract the word 'not'. Do not write isn't, write is not. Do not write doesn't, write does not, etc... Always write the full word not.
Do not forget the capital letter at the beginning of your sentence, and the full stop at the end of it.

Questions and negative statements Are the following questions or statements correct? This quiz has a 10 minutes time limit

"Entry Checker" and the quizzes: What is this all about?

It is all about being able to make statements negative and to ask proper questions.

The sun is shining.

No, the sun don't shining WRONG

No, the sun not shining. WRONG

No, the sun doesn't shining. WRONG

The sun is shining

The sun is shining

Forms of the verb "be": I am, you are, she/he/it is

All sentences with the verb be are made negative like in German, just by adding a "not", and the questions are asked by changing the word order, like in German.

I am. No, I am not (I'm not I+apostrophe+m) . Am I?

There is no DO, no DOES, no DID

The only difficult thing here is to understand that it's easy.

Also in past tense:

I was in a church.

No, I wasn't in a church

- Where were you?

Present Continuous:

The teacher says, "I am singing!"

- No, you are not (aren't) singing!

- What is the teacher doing?

He's explaining something.

Ok. This was easy.

Let's see how this works with full verbs:

I play the keyboard.

You play the keyboard

We play the keyboard

They play the keyboard

He she it, das s geht mit!

She does not (doesn't) play the keyboard.

Oh really? So, which instrument does she play?

She plays the piano.

Tigers eat salad.

No, tigers do not eat salad.

What do they eat?

They eat meat.

So far, so good.

What about the past simple?

Yesterday I played (play+ed) with my friends.

dance + ed = danced

sign + ed = signed

listen + ed = listened

These verbs follow the rule (verb + ed). The are regular.

More verbs do not follow this rule.

The are irregular

We all love the irregular verbs.

Examples:

go - went

"went" is past tense of "go".

We are going to learn the irregular verbs like this:

go - went - gone

"gone" is the past participle

What do we do with it?

We need it for the present perfect.

I have gone to the beach.

More irregular verbs:

have had had

dig dug dug

How many irregular verbs are there?

Here you can find the answer:
